New Website is up and RUNNING!!!!

Check it out: www.melodydavisphotography.com

I'm sooooo happy with it! Every year around this time I take all my work from the previous year and go through the very time-consuming task of figuring out what I want to present to the public, not only the shots that I think are beautiful, but the images that seem to say something or just simply, exude tons of joy.

Whenever I look at a website of any artist, if it doesn't take me to the next page or link... well, I skip it. The same thing has to be said for the music that accompanies it. With my work I always need something a little cheeky, sweet, but that doesn't put you to sleep so I checked out a few of my favorite artists, The Stars, The Postal Service, Architecture in Helsinki, and a popular song by Bright Eyes for my 2010 collection.

Well, after staying up till 3:30am on Saturday trying to complete it, I was finished. Or, so I thought. The whole next day I was second guessing a few decisions, frustrated with the limitations of my server and something else I just couldn't pinpoint. That was until I read a blog that I've been following recently from Promise Tangeman Art & Design and I found it soooo incredibly interesting and encouraging. For all those photographers or artists who ever second guess themselves in their businesses check out her post titled, "Simple Thoughts on Re-Branding Your Business for 2010". Definitely inspiring:)

After another restless sleep I woke up, distracted my daughter a bit and plopped myself in front of the computer and came up with a little something that I was proud to represent me:

I used to make these collages back in highschool for my photography class with Mr. Fuller, my teacher. It was one of my favorite things to do and I recently found a bunch while I was moving. They are now back in boxes but when I pull them out again I'll be sure to post a few "ancient" pieces:)

So, enjoy the website, enjoy the music. www.melodydavisphotography.com

Huge Announcement #4... Where we've been... Where we're headed!

It's 11pm, and with an hour to spare, I can still make my 4th HUGE GIGANTO announcement of the week!

To be brief it's all about going places:) Cause anyone that knows me well knows that I love to travel. Travelling the world on my own for the past 15 years I've jumped at the opportunities that have fallen in my lap. I've had a ton of different jobs and they've taken me to Africa, Madagascar, England, France, Austria, Germany, Italy, Thailand, Japan, Mexico, and of course North America. But this was all before becoming a Professional Photographer.

Starting a family definitely kind of changes things a bit, and for that I was content. However, suddenly becoming an International Photographer kind of changes things up a bit as well!!!! Can you sense the anticipation?!?!?!

We never intended to go "International", but again, things just tend to fall in our lap. And, when they do... we JUMP! Early last year we met a wonderful man who was flown in from the UK to MC Jeff & Jen Wiens' wedding that we were photographing. One thing led to another and after seeing our photographs he flew back and told one of his best friends about us. Again, one thing led to another and before we knew it we were flying to Cambridge, England to photograph Beth & Andrew's wedding. We met the lovely young couple the night before the wedding, got acquainted, and then pretty much became one of the family as we celebrated with them by photographing every detail of their wedding. It was simply splendid!!!!

So, what do we do now that we already have a 4 year old and are expecting another little one in April??? We JUMP... and travel some more!!!!

This year we are doing some short trips, to places like Seattle, Washington, the Sunshine Coast, Whistler, of course our gorgeous city of Vancouver... and then to cap it all off... the CARIBBEAN! Yup, we're headed to the blue blue waters for a destination wedding with Craig & Tatum! We met up with them early in Fall 2009 for their engagement session and simply loved their energy, spunk & charisma.

I'll have more on them in February, when I recap all of 2009. For now, here is a teeny weeny peek at Beth & Andrew's wedding in Cambridge, England from September 5, 2009. As usual, my trusty assistant was none other than my wonderful husband, Eric Davis. Enjoy!

Huge Announcement #3... 2010 SALES EVENT

All the details your need to know below:)

I love PHOTOGRAPHY! I just can't get enough of it, and when I'm not shooting, or not taking a wee little break, there's always something that needs the attention of a camera. For all those Photographers out there.... you know exactly what I mean.

As much I would love to photograph a number of genres I've learned over the years to focus on a few things at a time... and for you moms out there... well, you know exactly what I mean there too:) Can we say "our brains are fried" for just a second and let out a little bit of "CRAZY"?!?!?! Then we collect ourselves... and once again attempt to take on the world... am I right?!?!?! Give me a HOLLA!

That was quite the little tangent so I'll start again... as much I would love to shoot more genres I tend to focus more on Weddings, Fashion/Music & Creatives. One of those genres that I love, but don't seem to have much time for is Family Sessions. And, coming from a family that is also watching its $$$$, well, sometimes it's just not in our means to get the higher end images that we would all love to have. That being said, I believe every family deserves to have some truly beautiful images for themselves at some point in their lives.

I've had so much fun over the years with the families we have photographed, coming back again and again to see how the kids have grown and... well, getting dirty and playing like a kid myself. But I understand that not everyone that has inquired for our services can afford our regular prices. So, we have an event for you:

October 2010 we are holding a special event simply for families who are looking for a little more than an outdoor photo shoot; which by the way are still hands down my fav! We've had a ton of people request images in a downtown loft type of location... and we're doing it! For 1 day we will be holding 60 minute sessions for families at the IronWorks Studio in Vancouver. It's a fabulous place that I've been returning to for years. I love to use it for our Fashion & Musician Shoots and I think it would be perfect for those of you that are looking for something just a little out of the ordinary.

Info you need to know: Family Sesssions

Where: IronWorks Studio Vancouver

When: Sunday, October 24th, 2010

Fee: $200.00+tax ($150.00 savings)

more details upon booking, info@melodydavisphotography.com

space is limited

Here are a couple samples from our Fall 2009 work at the IronWorks Studios in Vancouver, with two upcoming Artists. Check out the backdrops, setting and atmosphere. I love it.

Through our affiliate company TOMA MARKETING SOLUTIONS, I had the pleasure of meeting up with Musician Landon Lucas, and then a couple of months later, Victoria Duffield. These two artists are young, talented... phenomenal! Keep your eyes and ears open for them... you'll definitely be hearing a lot about these two. Yes, these are musicians, and a family session would be slightly different than these. However, bring your creativity... we'll have fun!

I'm so incredibly proud of these two. They were spectacular to work with, and at such young ages, already so professional!

For both sessions we worked with our favorite creative team:

Makeup/hair - Cody-Anne Gau

Stylist - Katy Hersey of Picturemefoto+design

Huge Announcement #2... only 3 more to go:)

This hits a little closer to home...

I have these 5 announcements that I wanted to start off the year with and I can't wait to share each one. Yesterday we shared how we have been "featured" and getting more and more notice as our business grows. YEY!

Today, I just couldn't decide what to share, simply because if you care about photography... it's just so darn exciting!!!! So, after a lot of thought, I decided to share something a little more personal. I'll leave the "Sales Event", Our Wedding Travel Plans & the latest that MDP is offering, for another day. STAY TUNED!

So, I'll just get right to it!

I'm PREGNANT!   We're having a GIRL! and.... we just bought a HOUSE!

(Left: the father of my babes, Eric Davis, in Cannes France, 2009. Center: Me in our little B&B in Eze, South of France. Bottom Right: My darling London. Top Right: My precious baby girl)

There's a ton of changes in our midst and the one that's most important is that my little girl is getting a little sister:) She may have to share her lipsticks... yikes.... but I think she'll be happy overall. London has even named her already. Although, I think we will leave the name decision up to us.

So, how does this news effect our clients? I'm getting my own office! I've had a small closet sized office for quite some time, but nothing I would like clients to even enter:) But this will be different, classy... PROFESSIONAL! And, it's about time.
